Santa Monica ‘labor peace’ rule illegal, restaurants warn
The California Restaurant Association is considering legal action against Santa Monica over a proposed ordinance requiring labor peace agreements for businesses on city-owned properties. Jot Condie, CRA’s president and CEO, said, “Layering on new mandates like this will put many local restaurants in an impossible position. Santa Monica should be looking for ways to keep small businesses alive, not accelerating closures.” The CRA is also concerned that these agreements may conflict with federal law and further burden struggling local businesses.
