The referendum signatures filed by the coalition of business and hospitality groups were found insufficient by the LA County Registrar. That means the referendum of the $30 minimum wage for hotel workers will proceed and will not go to the voters. After business groups filed their signatures to qualify the referendum, labor unions organized a signature withdrawal campaign getting voters that signed the referendum petition to withdraw their signatures, which impacted the number of qualified signatures according to the Registrar’s office. The business community is preparing to push back.
