ICYMI RESTAURANT ALERT Extended Producer Responsibility: Compliance Deadline: June 1st
Restaurants may be considered “producers” and must check if they need to register by June 1st (yesterday). A producer is defined as “a person who manufactures a product that uses covered material and who owns or is the licensee of the brand or trademark under which the product is used in a commercial enterprise, sold, offered for sale, or distributed in the state.” California businesses must determine if they are “producers” under SB 54. Most restaurants are not “producers” simply for providing disposable items purchased from a U.S. supplier, but some situations can make a restaurant a “producer.”
The CRA had an exclusive insight drafted by our Legal Center partner Fisher Phillips to support our members: California SB 54 and the Restaurant Sector — When “Producer” Status Hits the Kitchen.
